CALL FOR participating to the working group of the dissemination event
Are you a researcher in complex systems with a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration and public engagement? Join us in Siena, Italy, during the Conference on Complex Systems 2025, for an exciting opportunity to contribute to a public dissemination event organized by the Science Outreach Chairs in collaboration with the yrCCS (Young Researchers of the Complex Systems
Society).
This event will take place the 3rd of September evening at Teatro dei Rinnovati and will be a celebration of science, designed to bring complex systems research to life for a broader audience. With the support of La Scienza Coatta, a collective of Italian science communicators, we will host a dynamic, interactive stage show
built around four major fields of application of complex systems science:
Economics and Finance
Biology and Ecology
Neuroscience
Social Phenomena
What’s the Event About?
The event will be a unique blend of science and entertainment: Scientific Quiz: Engaging quiz rounds that challenge the audience while conveying fascinating insights into complex systems.
On-Stage Explanations: Each quiz question will be followed by a detailed, accessible explanation by a member of the working group that developed it.
Comedy and Crowd work: Experienced science communicators will keep the energy high and the learning fun by telling jokes and engaging the audience.
Your Role as a Participant
As a participant, you’ll join one of the four themed working groups that will work between May 10th and June 10th to:
-Develop creative, thought-provoking quiz questions that reflect the latest research in your area of expertise.
-Craft clear and compelling explanations for each question, designed to intrigue and educate the public.
-Collaborate with your peers to finalize the content, ensuring it’s both scientifically accurate and engaging.
One Italian-speaking member from each group should be chosen to step into the spotlight on the day of the quiz night to deliver the explanations directly to the local audience, making complex ideas accessible for everyone. These four chosen members will be coached by the stand-up scientist Paolo Barucca to learn the basis of public (and fun) speaking for a general audience.
